In the VEKN.net forum a discussion has started which decks are (currently) tier-1 decks. The first question from my point of view is, what actually is the definition of tier-1, tier-2, tier-3 decks? Unfortunately there’s no common definition for that term in VtES. In Magic the Gathering the term “tier” is usually defined in the following way:
Refers to the popularity of a certain deck or deck archetype. Tier 1 decks are the most popular decks, Tier 2 decks are less popular, Tier 3 decks are the least popular. Tier is often confused with the power level of a certain deck. Although sometimes it’s true that more popular decks are more powerful, many powerful decks do not achieve a good Tier level. Also, cards tend to be referred to similarly, based on their popularity in these decks. For example, a Tier 1 card is one that shows up in many top level decks, and is easy to trade or sell.
As you can see the definition makes an emphasis on popularity of a deck, rather than its strength. In the VtES community the emphasis is actually on the strength of decks, that is their performance in a tournament environment. From my point of view, Izaak has given a rather comprehensive definition of the different deck strengths in the Dutch VtES forum, which I adjusted only slightly:
In addition, there are the so-called casual decks which are decks of lesser strength. The ones you put together for playing with friends, but you wouldn’t take to tournaments and expect to be in the finals. Some players also add intermediate tiers like 1.5 or 2.5 in order to have more room for assigning a deck’s strength, but this is not essential for the definition as such.
I have refrained from assigning decks to specific tiers in this post, because that’s an entire different topic.

V:EKN Design Team has released new information on the Danse Macabre expansion in the latest Designer Diary. Here’s the full information:
The Week of Nightmares is underway in Columbus, Ohio, and the North American Championship is happening this weekend at Origins. Mike Nudd and I will be in town for Origins, and as we did last year, we’ll have a meeting with the playtesters in attendance to go over playtest of the next set after Danse Macabre. We got a lot of great feedback doing this last year, and we look forward to doing it again! I’ve also spoken with the organizers of the European Championships in Stockholm, and we’d like to do a preview/question & answer panel with the Design Team.
As for the next set, I figured I’d update you on its progress. It is an as-yet-unnamed Independent-clan themed set, slated to be 36 cards in size. The clans will be the classic Independent clans: Assamites, Followers of Set, Giovanni, and Ravnos. We have more than 70 cards designed already and more are being designed. We’ll be paring the set down to 44 cards or so for playtest. Depending on how cards fare in playtest, cuts will be made and each clan will end up with 5-6 vampires and 3-4 library cards.
The main limiting factor on the size of the set is artwork. We are thrilled to report that the great majority of artists from Danse Macabre will be returning for the next set. We’re also looking for more artists, so if you’d like to contribute or if you know an artist who would like to help, please send contact info and portfolios to Gines Quinonero at damnansvtes (/at/) ono (/dot/) com.
Given that it’s an Independent-themed set, some of you may be wondering whether we’ll be including Gangrel. At the present time we’re not. Again, we’re limited by how much artwork we can get, so we’re going to focus on the “classic four” for now. However, if print-on-demand goes online and if we can get the resources we need from OneBookshelf.com, we’ll consider expanding the scope of the set to include Gangrel. Under those circumstances, we’d also be likely to increase the amount of crypt and library cards each clan would get.
The first wave of art descriptions to be sent to the Art Director is due at the end of the month, and we’ll be starting playtest then, as well. As Johannes mentioned in the forums, the print-on-demand project continues to progress with no major roadblocks. However, without final validation from all parties involved, there are no announcements to be made at the present time.
That’s the news for now! See you at Origins
— Ben Peal, V:EKN Design Team Lead

Another great Poker quote, which applies to some aspects of VtES as well.
The VtES EC 2013 website is now online. The two most important features are the pre-registration and the ability to book the hotel. Although the later has a problem with the use of the booking codes, which will be fixed soon. Other features like the event schedule, FAQ, touristic information will be added anytime soon.
If you have any questions or want to make some remarks, you can do so in the corresponding VEKN.net forum post. Alternatively you can visit the VtES EC 2013 page on Facebook.
On vekn.net the VEKN rules director, Pascal Bertrand announced an open revision process for Lilith’s Blessing, which is currently banned from tournament play. To make it tournament viable again (e.g. powering the card down a notch), an open review and improvement process has been proposed by Pascal
Name: Lilith’s Blessing
Cardtype: Master
Cost: 1 pool
Master. Put this card in play. As a master phase action, you may tap this card to search your library for a master: Discipline card and choose a ready non-Bahari vampire you control who has no blood. That vampire gains the Discipline card (if any) and 3 blood and becomes Bahari.
Process Steps
Process Participation
The steps everyone can take to have say in the revision process are quite simple:
