On March 30th, 2017 the VEKN has published its latest newsletter (for March 2017). The newsletter covers a number of topics, ranging from news on the Anthology Set, two new Storylines tournaments coming up, and news on the upcoming VEKN expansion (based on the Bloodline clans). In summary, the Anthology sets new cards will be revealed on the VEKN website during the next weeks prior to the EC 2017 in Berlin. Also new cards (as published by the VEKN) are now tournament legal directly upon release (so no more 30 day waiting period). Mike Nudd has announced two new Storyline tournaments named Ascension of Caine and End of the Line, which both reference the Berlin (by Night) setting and the LARP event End of the Line (which is taking place during the World of Darkness Berlin convention). The upcoming VEKN expansion for the Bloodlines is well under way, but the round 2 of the playtesting has not (yet) started.

Most interesting news today, as there’s gonna be a special VTES card set as part of the VTES European Championship 2017, which will take place during the WoD Berlin convention. But read for yourself …
White Wolf, Vampire: Elder Kindred Network and Participation | Design | Agency are proud to announce that the 2017 European Championship of Vampire: The Eternal Struggle will be held as an open tournament at the World of Darkness Berlin convention on the 11-14 May, 2017.
With the intent of making this event a truly unforgettable experience, White Wolf has licensed P|D|A to publish a Limited Edition 100-card V:TES Anthology Set for the World of Darkness Berlin. Each participant of the convention will receive a copy of the set as part of their registration fee, and they will have the opportunity to pre-order additional sets to be collected at the event.
The Anthology Set will consist of a selection of highly sought-after re-prints, cards from various VEKN expansions, and several new cards representing elements of the collaborative-style full immersion live-action roleplaying events End of the Line and Enlightenment in Blood, both of which will be run in Berlin during the convention. The exact contents of the card set will be announced at the end of January.

Today, the VEKN chairman, Ginés Quiñonero, has issued a statement with regards to the changes of the Inner Circles, that is the VEKN board of directors.
Since my re-election I have been in talks with several V:TES enthusiasts willing to devote their time to promoting the game, in order to restructure the Inner Circle and make it a more active and operational body.
With that intention in mind, the Scribe and Marketing Director positions have been unified into a single one:
- Community Manager: Shall manage the Vampire: The Eternal Struggle Facebook, Twitter, etc. pages. Shall write and post V:EKN announcements in social media, V:EKN forums, etc. Shall answer questions related to V:EKN announcements in social media, forums, etc. And shall write the monthly V:EKN Newsletter.
And a new position (actually not so new) has been created:
- Organized Play Coordinator: Shall be in charge of promoting VTES play through National Coordinators, so that the playerbase grows and the game looks more attractive to the companies willing to publish it.
In addition, White Wolf’s representative Dhaunae De Vir has accepted the Inner Circle position of Counselor.
Therefore, as of now the Inner Circle is going to be restructured as follows (new members are in red):
- Chairman and Website Coordinator: Ginés Quiñonero
- Vice Chairman: Hugh Angseesing
- Rules Director: Pascal Bertrand (until he finishes the new qualification system he is working on for the European Championships). After that he’ll step down and Vincent Ripoll will take over.
- Ratings Coordinator: Vincent Ripoll
- Design Team Leader: Ben Peal
- Community Manager: Henrik Klippström
- Organized Play Coordinators: Orian Gissler and Desso Alastor
- Counselors: David Tatu and Dhaunae de Vir (White Wolf)
- Chairmen Emeriti: Robert Goudie, Johannes Walch
Also interesting to read are the meeting minutes of the meeting of the VEKN national coordinators during the EC 2016 in Genoa, Italy, as well as the discussion on the changes to the European qualification system.
Good news from the VEKN design team yesterday. Mike & Ben have finished the design of the next VTES expansion, which is basically a Bloodlines expansion with a focus on the Blood Brothers, the Gargoyles, the Salubri antitribu, the Harbingers of Skulls, and the Samedi. (If you want to, these are the bloodlines in VTES, which are less successful in tournaments and other competitive game environments, when compared to the Kiasyd or the Baali). The set will most likely have 20 crypt and 21 library cards, which are now on their way to White Wolf for review and approval. If that commences, the play-testing phase will start ..
Really big news today, the VEKN has released a new Rules Team Ruling, which basically allows the proxy cards in VTES tournaments. There are few caveats, but right now proxies are .. legal for tournament play.
As you’ve probably heard today, we have some news from Paradox.
Tournament Rules Change
After several years of suggestion from players, discussion, debating amongst the NCs and Inner Circle, we have submitted a rule change to Paradox, and we are happy to report their support on the following points :
“As long as the game is not under production, the organizer of an event can choose to allow proxy cards in his or her event. For events where proxy cards are allowed, several points apply:
– there are no limit to the number of proxy cards a deck can have
– every proxy card must be a color-copy of the original card, on standard paper
– the quality of the print must allow the reading of the illustrator’s name
– the organizer must mark the event as ‘allowing proxy cards’ on the VEKN calendar”
As for VEKN-issued cards, proxy-cards would have to be inserted in an opaque sleeve (along the rest of the crypt and/or library), before a regular VTES card.
This change in the Tournament Rules will not apply to National Championships and Continental Championships.
This RTR will be effective for events created for August 6th 2016 and later (this includes events held on August 6th, 2016).
As we just received their answer, the implementation of the checkbox on the Event Module Creation isn’t fully complete, and we kindly ask for your patience before creating Proxy-allowing events (it shouldn’t take long).
The VEKN has released a statement regarding the next VTES expansion (again based on PDF) on April 10th, 2016. But read for yourself:
Mike Nudd and I just had a lengthy Skype call where we went over design goals for the next set and started on card design. The next set will be Bloodlines-themed and we’re aiming for around 50 cards, focussing mainly on the following clans:
- Blood Brothers
- Harbingers of Skulls
- Salubri anitribu
We may make cards for other clans as space permits. We know you want all the things and we’d like to make all the things, but to do that would probably mean about a 100-card set, which we don’t have the playtest and artist resources for. We’ll focus on the Bloodlines clans that need the most help for this set, and we’ll circle back and cover the remaining Bloodlines clans in a follow-up set.
Crypt-wise, we plan to address mainly Group 6 crypt needs, but other groups are likely to get treatment depending on need. Library-wise, we’ll have a better idea how many library cards per clan to expect as we get further into the design process, but something like “a few”.
The design of this set has nothing to do with anything Paradox/White Wolf may have planned — we have no information pertaining to that. We’re just going to carry on with designing cards as normal until we’re told to stop or told to do something different.
We’re planning to start playtesting in mid-May, with a release date of November-ish. More details to come as we figure them out!
